Centro Santillan Yoga and Wellness Centre is an authentic Andalusian farmhouse with gardens overlooking the sea.
Set in a secluded location, Santillan is an Andalusian paradise. A farm of 50,000 sq, metres, it is located in the peace of the Spanish countryside, and yet is conveniently only 20 minutes from Malaga airport. You can immerse yourself in the silence of nature in its lovely gardens and surrounding hills. It is the perfect setting for your yoga and meditation retreat. Centro Santillan was mentioned in The Times as one of Europe’s best yoga and wellness centres. We are proud to have a newly built, beautiful state of the art and fully equipped yoga studio, complete with Yoga Wall, designed with guidance from leading yoga teacher Simon Low.
You can relax in the extensive gardens or round the saltwater pool, and at night can enjoy star-gazing under the dark night sky – we can provide a bonfire outside for those cooler nights.
Carlo Marchini was a workaholic who rarely stopped. Then he had the car accident that would change his life forever. Emerging from hospital after months of painful rehab he knew he wanted a different way of life – to live in peace, in nature. In 1989 he became the proud owner of a fifty-hectare parcel of uninhabited land at the top of an Andalucían valley, with sea views. We all thought he was crazy. A year later the first eight bedrooms were complete and the typically Andalucían, white painted, terracotta tiled, cortijo opened for business. With its courtyards, fountains and terraces, jacarandas, palms and pines, it quickly became a thriving wedding venue. By 2002 it had grown to twenty bedrooms and two years later the hotel played host to the Dalai Lama, who stayed on his way to and from the Buddhist monastery in Granada. In 2011 his daughter Adriana took a break from the music industry and moved back home to help nurse her father through cancer. When he died Adriana felt the same call to change her life – to make a permanent move from Madrid, to live in nature, and in peace. Inspired by Conversations with God, given to her by the Dalai Lama, She decided to evolve the hotel into a year round retreat for yoga, meditation and wellness. When one of her friends returned from a yoga holiday raving about her teacher, Simon Low, Adriana was delighted to discover he lived on the other side of the valley. He came over, Adriana explained what she wanted to do, and a partnership was born. Adriana employed renowned architect Fernando Visedo Manzanares to create Simon’s vision – a world-class yoga studio with a sprung floor, 24 rope stations designed to improve alignment, and of course shelf upon shelf of brand new blankets, bolsters, blocks and bricks. The opening week Simon, Eija and his students held a blessing ceremony and Simon gifted the shala a dancing Tara, goddess of universal compassion. Yoga has given her a new business, new friends, and a way of continuing the work of her beloved father.
